The Planetarium’s new offering, Red-eye to the Stars—the flying observatory SOFIA, shows the unique atmosphere during a science flight aboard the “Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy” (SOFIA) and follow how the secrets of the universe are uncovered by witnessing an expedition for a glimpse into hidden regions of the universe.
Festival of Trees is an exciting opportunity to see the Museum decorated in beautiful holiday decor, as well as a fundraiser for the Museum of Coastal Carolina, Ingram Planetarium, and individual tree sponsors. The museum raises funds through admission to the festival and selling votes for favorite tree. Sponsors accrue funds through a silent auction for each tree’s lights and decorations.
The Festival of Trees opens on Thursday, Nov 10 and closes on Saturday, Dec 31, 2022. During that time the Festival will be open to the public on Thursday thru Saturday during regular open hours. Additional public hours from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm will be offered on the following Sundays: Nov 13, 20, and 27 as well as Dec 4, 11, and 18.

There are many organizations throughout the region that work to conserve, protect, and educate about local habitats and species. Each month, we will feature one of these organizations. Representatives from each will be on site for a family friendly program.

Every second Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm, enjoy an entertaining and educational presentation at the Museum of Coastal Carolina. The Sandbar Lecture Series brings local experts to speak about topics ranging from our coastal environment to Outer Banks history.
On Tuesday, Dec 13 we will explore maritime culture though the experience of Gullah Geechee natives and how they have utilized the water to sustain themselves and their communities. Our speaker, Tendaji Bailey is a Gullah Geechee native of Port Royal, SC in Beaufort County. He is a graduate of Morehouse College as well as a former middle school math teacher and community organizer. In his current role, as the Program Coordinator of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, he helps to develop programs and events to educate the public about the rich history and culture of Gullah Geechee communities throughout the corridor.
